IxDF Country Manager · Volunteer Leadership
As IxDF Country Manager for Ukraine, I spent 18 months helping rebuild an active design community by finding and supporting volunteer Local Leaders across Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, and other cities.
The challenge
When I volunteered to become IxDF Country Manager for Ukraine, most local groups had little activity. The war had forced many leaders and members to relocate, leaving the community scattered across Ukraine and abroad.
I focused on finding people willing to lead communities in their own cities, and supporting them as they turned ideas into real meetups.
The community today
Today, five volunteer Local Leaders support active groups in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, and Odesa. Together, our community has organized practical portfolio reviews, workshops, UX and UI case discussions, online talks, networking sessions, and informal offline meetups.
I am especially grateful for the evenings, preparation, care, and energy our leaders continue to give to the Ukrainian design community.
Community in Action
From portfolio reviews and UX case studies to AI workshops, networking sessions, and informal coffee meetups, every event was designed to help designers learn from real experiences rather than presentations alone.
The goal has always been simple: create an environment where people feel comfortable asking questions, sharing their work, and growing together.
Reflection
One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been watching people step forward—not because they had to, but because they genuinely wanted to help others.
Every meetup represents hours of preparation, coordination, encouragement, and care from volunteers who chose to invest their free time in the Ukrainian design community.
I'm deeply grateful to every Local Leader, speaker, and participant who made this community what it is today. Building it together has been one of the most meaningful leadership experiences of my career.
